Can anyone offer their experiences with teaching in Canada with a distance MA? I'm looking at local programs (McGill, Concordia) but would prefer a distance/online MA in TESOL or similar (for personal reasons).

I know many of the Australian ones tend to be popular with Canadian ESL teachers, any experience?

I would also be interested in any American ones that are located somewhat close to Montreal (ie. Vermont) that can be done mostly off-campus.

This may not be what you're looking for, but I know for certain that some of the reputable UK distance MAs are accepted. Birmingham, Edinburgh are - I know teachers working in Canadian unis who have degrees from these two.

Thanks spiral

UK distance MA's are just fine too. I will go check out their websites.

That's the reason to do it in Canada.

This is an OK link for many of the distance programs (not just TESOL) in the country:

I think U. Calgary does an online MA TESOL.

You might also check the TESOL Canada website.

They probably have links to recognized schools.

The TESOL website has such a page for many schools around the world.

Seriously, you should try. While you might not get residency prices though, I think you have to live in the EU for six months first, an EU passport would open doors.

I'm currently teaching ESL in Canada on contract for the federal and provincial (NS) governments. I have a Masters of Applied Linguistics (distance) from the University of Southern Queensland in Australia. My employers were impressed with the degree, as was I...it took a lot of work and I learned a lot (all for a good price).

Let me know if you want more info.
