Hi everyone, I am a "new" teacher. I was trying to obtain employment in the UAE. Unfortunately, they are sticklers on the amount of experience required for their positions. I have received two job offers for schools in Kuwait. I have two questions: What is a GOOD teaching salary for Kuwait Secondary Math Teachers? How late into the summer do the schools continue to select teachers?
I am concerned that the offers are fairly low. I want to teach in the middle east. I never considered Kuwait. I know nothing about the area. If you've taught in Kuwait please respond. I need some insight.
The two schools are the American Academy for girls and the Future Bilingual School. If you know anything about either please comment. |

Hello:
You should really do a search on the board for the two schools you mentioned here is a link from one they just recently had for American Academy for girls.

I am sorry I have no information on what a good starting salary is, but I am sure someone has asked the same question, you may want to try a search on that as well.

experience depends on whether school is accreditated and has a transparant pay scale dependent on degrees and years of experience, teaching certificate aslo.
AAG is NOTORIOUS in having a weak HS math department - they can't even get girsl admitted into Kuwait University because they don't have pre-calculus and routinely only cover 1/2 a textbook a year.
looks like your first year in kuwait will be bad
future bil is new -
no i can't spell |

Future Bilingual School has been around for about 6 years. They are located in Fahaheel. They have seperate campuses for boys/girls--but they are actually two school buildings connected to each other---nice for sharing resources, etc. They will be accepting grade 9 students for next academic year. Good mix of Arabic, native speaker, and non-native speaker staff--overall, qualified and dedicated staff. Director--for both girls and boys campuses--is a bilingual Kuwaiti woman who is very western in her managment style-- and I believe--her own educational background.
Nice place to work. |

Thanks for the information on the school.
15yearsinQ8...I am a math teacher so the info about the failing math department was very helpful. Do you have any idea how or why students would complete only half a text in a semester?
usa_in_gulf....FBS is probably where I'll end up...UNLESS I get something in the UAE.
Do either of you know when schools stop recruiting for the upcoming year? |

the only cover 1/2 the books because that's the only or one way the class will pass - no offense but you'll get some culture shock
don't expect future to be any better
all minor league schools pad grades and such
uas had an ad in the local paper for HS Math
google for their website and email / fax |

Actullay, FBS (Future Bilingual School) has a pretty good math program going on. (My nephew goes to this school.) Math is taught by the English homeroom teacher in the lower grades (1-2) and then by a specialist math teacher grades 3 & up. In my opinion, this is a good "set-up".
My nephew is finishing up 7th grade--and finishing up his Math book--and getting a D. I would guess that he wishes they padded grades. (There are only 13 students in his class.) |

AAG offers almost the lowest salaries in Kuwait. They don't see a direct correlation between attracting qualified staff and offering competitive salaries. |

Hi I am new to this site and have received an offer from a school in Kuwait called Manarat. I was wondering if anyone has any info on the school, and if salaries in Kuwait are negotiable. |

Everything in Kuwait is negotiable. Especially if they need you badly enough. Play hard ball. |
