Hi dynamite. I will be heading to Egypt in September to teach as well. I'll be in Maadi, which is a suburb just south of Cairo. We should definately chat sometime.

Though many posters are hard-pressed for time to properly review their spelling, grammar, syntax, etc., while on the Net, I guess "scot47" is right about being peeved at the many errors that crop up in the ESL fora (forums, if you please).

I'll stay out of spelling debate. A good way to meet other expats is through the Cairo Hash House Harriers: http://www.cairohash.com/

Every friday the group heads out into the desert to hike or run (you can do either), then drink a lot of beer, silly silly songs, act stupid and generally have a good time.

Hashing isn't for everyone and you probably need to have a good sense of humor, but it can be good fun and the members of the group are friendly to the extreme. Especially to newcomers. When we arrived in Cairo the CHHH took us under their wings and were an enormous help in getting us settled, finding a house cleaner, getting around, tips of life in Egypt... Even though we've now left Cairo many of the people we met on the hash remain some of our best friends.

It's also a great for networking. My wife got a job at an NGO through a hasher, I found a better school to work at through the hash, and no matter where we go in the world now, there is a hasher we met or a friend of a hasher, who has a spare bedroom for us to stay in.
