-It seems that many schools are calling out for staff at the moment- due to people not turning up, increasing class numbers etc.KG depts seem to be in need.
- One "old fart" has got the sack from her second school in two years...she lasted one month at the last place and two weeks at this place.....ooh la la and quel horreur......n'est-ce pas? Did she remember to take her armchair with her this time?
- How many broken desks do you have ?
-Do you have any board markers?
-Who has taken all the supplies? Is there some huge dark hole in Kuwait into which all Private Schools' Teachers' resources are being sucked?
One last question. Is staff parking an issue in your school? Do you have to trudge down the road , laden with books, through sand and heat, to get to school , while admin are parked comfortably outside the building, a mere 10 seconds from the school door? In the pecking order , where are we teachers ? If we weren't to turn up, could admin teach the kids? If admin weren't to turn up, could we make the tea, drink the tea, answer the phone, talk on the phone? Just a thought, but I think the school caste system goes something like this....
OWNERS
ADMIN
ADMINS's FAMIL AND FRIENDS
STUDENTS
MAIDS
.....TEACHERS.

Things don't change much... teachers have and always will be at the bottom of that list. (though we may be above the maids... at some places) Not just in Kuwait, but most places in the supposed 'developed' world. And they wonder why the best and the brightest leave the profession.

In Saudi at this time of the year the "Arab News" and "Saudi Gazette" (English-language Dailies) are full of ads for teachers. It is as if the administration suddenly realised that there are no teachers in the staff room !

In Kuwait we used to drive by a building every morning with a sign that said something to the effect: Institute of Arab Planning
How's that for an oxymoron? certainly for their education systems...
