I am currently working as a Teacher in the Adult Community sector in Australia. I am looking to relocate to the UK next year. The programme i currently work for is a government funded course provided free to refugee and migrant adults. I am interested to know if similar programmes exist in the UK, particularly outside of London.

Your best bet is probably to look at teaching ESOL in the Further Education sector. Take a look at www.talent.ac.uk for more info. There's also some info on this forum. |

I used to teach ESOL in FE but outside of a major city it was difficult to get enough hours. I also taught a modern foreign language and I think at one stage I was working in three colleges but still very part-time! Fortunately I wasn't paying rent.
Since I've moved abroad I believe funding has changed for the worse. It already had for modern foreign languages. In terms of demand for ESOL, it's still there, particularly from the new-accession EU countries. The government would like employers to contribute; with hundreds of thousands of arrivals in a few years you can understand why, but I'm not sure there is much evidence of that happening. |
