Hi,
I am planning to look for work in Germany, specifically in the Ulm region next year. Ive been teaching for 8 years, 3 of which were in Germany and have experience teaching elementary to proficiency and at least 50% has been in company work. I speak fluent German, Spanish and of course English and have a CELTA cert.
I was thinking about applying to the universities/fachhochschule there, the idea being that the conditions might be better (e.g. social security conditions, various 'pensions' being paid for you etc), that there is a greater possiblity of getting a full time/long-term contract (am hoping this move will be my last, hoping to settle down at last!) and that the pay (salary?) might be a little better than at the average language school.
Having said that, from my experience as a freelance teacher in Germany (in various locations so not dependent on the area where I was at the time/s) working by the hour can be extremely profitable and, at least then, you could even get the odd 40 euro or more an hour deals, if you looked of course.
I'm 31 and would like to find something relatively stable and predictable, the only thing which would not interest me is to teach in a children's school.
Any advice on what option would therefore pay more and/or be more settled?
Has anyone ever taught at a university and can tell me about there experience? I'm especially interested in any tips on the application process.
I'm very grateful in advance for anyone's help! Thank you! |
