I'm Canadian and I'm off to Germany sometime in January 2004. Looks like it might be hard to find something, but hey, what's life without a little hardship?
I teach ESL in Qubec, and in the summer the work pretty much dries up due to holidays. Is it the same in Germany? I assume that trying to find an English-teaching job in the summer is even more difficult than at other times of the year?
I'm also curious about the possibility of teaching other languages - do the language schools have a large clientele for non-English lessons? I'm fluent in French and Polish, so would this be an advantage?
Thanks! |

French and Polish are definitely assets to boast of in your job applications! Germans learn all kinds of foreign languages - Polish because the border is now as open as any inside the EU, and French has always been a traditional foreign language in German schools. |
