The salaries vary, depending on how much chapstick you have strategically placed on SJ's sit-upon. The advertised rates and the actual rates don't match up, and the annual increases are not based on seniority, experience, or even how well you have done during the year.

The whole process at the ELC at XJTLU is opaque. More transparency, perhaps even a committee, would be welcome.

Which brings us to the most disturbing part of the ELC: lack of teacher input. I was just interviewed at a University where TEACHERS made up the search committee, and the questions (and answers) were brutally honest. I appreciate that MUCH more than the smoke-and-mirrors method at XJTLU.

Not everything in China is as it seems. Milk powder or universities, the label means nothing. Who writes the salary checks? I'd safely bet that the University of Liverpool does not pay one single salary anywhere in Suzhou. Not even SJ's sit upon.

many of these programs work like franchises.... where the company pays a fee for the use of a name...and the payment of employees come from the money generated from the program on ground in china.. if legit (and by that I mean issued frm the legit uni).. usually u r paid in foreign funds.. as the money has to go through accounting and then is dispersed...again usually through a bank acct...

nomad,

try an F800 ST...

True, licencing is an option for some China entrants. But actually, I was indirectly pointing out the Chinese use of western names... like King's College, Oxford etc. that have no relationship to the ones we are familiar with. I recently discovered that XXXX Canadian College had nothing to do with Canada except that the owner had travelled there sometime in the past. Off on a tangent... oops.

I was just wondering if the Suzhou uni thread was a similar thingy.

I'd like to thank everyone on this thread. One of my friends is working at XJTLU now, and the STORIES are incredible.

I can't say how glad I am that we have this community to warn each other.

We need a UNION!

How bad are the stories? Was my posting and information (above) deemed correct?

Just heard back: nothing new. SJ is still playing the puppet master and the sycophants are still kissing ass.

This is all second-hand info, but it sounds like a crappy place to work.

I found a cool place to work, and my boss is really encouraging about us giving input into the program. I'm really expanding my horizons!

I guess I can be glad that I was not successful in my application attempt!

Hi

Could you elaborate a bit more on your comments on the first sentence. I plan to apply for a job in xjtlu but wonder whether it is good. Thanks.

Solid advice for just about everything job-related in China."

I have not found the written or spoken word of some Chinese bosses to be of any value. A lie is a lie is a lie, written or spoken.
