The teacher who was fired from his post in a Koleji may have suffered humiliation and personal anguish at losing a job, but financially the teacher came out rather well. Just look at the stats.

1. The Koleji paid for the return flight Turkey-Country of Origin- Turkey
cost: $700.00 U.S.

2. Teacher gets first pay cheque for equivalent of $1000.00 U.S. The pay was 1.391.000.000 Tl

3. One week after being fired on Oct. 10th, teacher receives another pay from the Koleji for a total of 1.758.000.000 (about $1255.00 U.S.). This included the days worked after the first pay cheque and the pay for the club hours (two 50 mins. table tennis sessions with 9 students). The money paid to the teacher was the penalty fee that the Koleji stipulates in the contract. If the teacher resigns he/she has to pay one month salary gross...but if the Koleji fires the teacher (as was the case here) it is the Koleji which has to pay the severance/penalty fee of one month. Obviously it is better for a teacher not to resign from a financial standpoint.

The total amount of money that the Koleji paid the teacher who was fired was $2947.00 U.S. dollars, not bad for 20 days work, which is the exact number which the teacher worked. The accounting department at this Koleji probably hates this teacher for incurring such a huge debt, but they will not hire a new teacher, as other teachers in the Department will work extra hours (to a max. of 30 hours a week) to cover the classes of the dismissed teacher, so in a way the Koleji will also come out on top financially at the end of the year.

One should not give people the idea that being fired is a good thing, but at this particular Koleji there are compensations in terms of money.

The teacher in question has received a job offer from a language school in a town 6 hours east of Istanbul. The pay will not be as high (about 1.200.000.000 tl a month - $850 U.S.), but at least the teacher will no longer have to teach spoilt brats. The new position is in a city with a huge old University so there will always be work, as these students provide the language schools with large numbers. The new contract includes a free apartment with cable t.v. (digiturk).

The fired teacher vows to never again teach children in private k-12 Kolejis in Turkey again.

Why relate the story in the third person when it so clearly should be in the first person ?
