Most English-medium teaching jobs in the UAE are for primary and secondary levels. In fact, the tiny UAE has more English-medium k12 schools than China.

For non-ESL positions, see the thread, Requirements for English-medium teachers in ADEC schools. Also check out Teach Away, Seek Teachers, and Footprints for specific info and ads for k12 teaching opportunities covering ESL and academic subjects.

I am not asking about schools. I know where to find ads for schools. I just wondered where all the adult English training programmes were nowadays.

You asked about jobs worth taking. Language schools and training centers don't particularly fit the bill; positions are usually filled locally with resident expats or Emiratis and not from abroad. That equates to a so-so salary and few, if any, benefits. Additionally, EFL trainer openings in the oil/gas industry are scarce due to the oil slump. Anyway, you can check to see if the British Council has openings.

Keep in mind that English is widely spoken in the UAE for business and commerce given that expats make up nearly 90% of the country's population.

As of today, per TESOL Arabia's website, the 2018 conference has been "deferred until further notice." You'll need to check the site periodically for the rescheduled dates and any other info.

TESOL Arabia would be your best bet since it's the largest event in the GCC and therefore, attracts employers and job seekers from throughout the region. However, some of those same employers often recruit during IATEFL (UK) and TESOL Int'l (US) in the spring as well. That said, you could check the websites of individual universities, schools, and organizations in the region for postings.

For k12 job openings, refer to my initial post.

That is interesting. Considering that the HCT people were likely the majority of those running the show for the last few years... and considering all the professional teachers who have been pushed out/non-renewed or just plain abused enough that they resigned, I wonder if this means that they have no one to run it.

Or the government has refused any funding...

Pure speculation, of course...

There's enough in the annals of TACON history to write a novel: power plays, personality clashes, mismanagement of funds ... it is all speculation. It's a great study in the rise (and fall) of a not-for-profit, volunteer professional development organization in the waning years of oil wealth.

Yes, I've been picking up a few of the "details" in the last 24 hours. Besides the personalities and rumors of financial shenanigans... there is the 'fact' that UAE government wants a 20% tax. It is theoretically a non-profit, so one wonders... 20% on what?

You should write that novel Gulezar. I was around and part of the group that started it way back in the early 90s... and the tales started almost immediately. Laughing But, it was a pretty well run organization for the first 10 or so years and the conferences were useful and fun.

Sad times for education in the UAE...

Forget working in the oil field too. Contracted out to teachers with very, very little experience for 12k/month all in. And, Americans are taking such salaries, not just the usual suspects.
It's just ADNOC now, all the opcos are no more.

Well. In the oil field, such salaries are usually reserved for 'others'.
