Are P2P file sharing sites like Kazaa blocked in KSA?

Go to www.Kazaa.com and see if you can install it, do so, and if you can, then see if you can download your favorite tunes or TV shows.

Well, Albulbul might not want to install it - may not have enough of the system requirements or feel like paying $1.99 / $1.49 a month. But if he can even just access the site there, that'd likely mean that you'd be able to download it yourself when you get there.

P2P sites work here but they are a joke if you do not have broadband and broadband is EXPENSIVE here.

How expensive Chris? If Kazaa is accessible, then so are movies, TV shows, music, software, game demos, and more.

I tried downloading the Kazaa software. My computer froze on one step so I couldn't download it and therefore couldn't use the service.

Has anyone been successful in operating Kazaa in KSA?

p2p will work but it is slow with a dial up connection.
the software won't matter: shareraza, Kazaa, Ares.

look for "Kazaa lite ++" instead to avoid the spy ware. i just now d-loaded Ares (free) and hope to try it. Bear share isnt bad.

so yes, you can get pics of the Hilton sisters or whoever, content doesn't matter thru p2p. Movies? that s dreaming at 2.3 kps.

I got tired of firewalls at work. And the inability to chat. So I spent 3,000 SR for a basic computer. Now I have the system at home and it is much easier.

I use Sahara Net but you should ask around to find what is best for your location.

Of course some teachers in Saudi Arabia seem to be constitutionaly incapable of spending money. For them buying their own computer is clearly not an option.

The stories of EFL Instructors stealing toilet paper and teabags from work are not invented : I have seen it. And they were NOT Scotsmen !

I am now in Kingdom, and I buy internet cards for my home--I do have the standard Saudi firewall.

I downloaded Kazaa though; took about an hour, but now I can download music. I usually find three or four songs a night. . . they're download by morning.

But we can also stream a wide variety of non-mainstream genres through various online radio shows here in Saudi--delta blues, modern jazz, alt. country, like that.

Try wwoz.org out of New Orleans.

The best part of this technology is I no longer have to put CD shopping on my list of things to do when I'm out.

Kazaa offers person-to-person sharing of video, audio, images and software.

Make sure you have a good virus guard and I suggest spending the 30 US a year for the pay version to avoid the pop-up ads which slow down the download process.

You'll definitely need a DSL to download feature length films. But shorter films like music videos and the like also come through the firewall. . .for now. hint hint

Maybe he's got a sort of situation similar to the one we "singles" had (and they still have) at the IPA. No phone bills, ever (but we couldn't initiate long-distance calls) and no Internet charges when you were hooked up to the IPA mainframe. It was a sweet deal.
