I have not really considered Kuwait, as I am presently applying to two Unis. in Saudi, but have received an e-mail from a recruiter by the name of Tania Fernandes for a job in Kuwait with the Ministry of Defence.

Basic salary = 700 Kuwait dinars (tax free), which is about $2500 u.s.

Furnished housing + transport to and from work + 6 weeks at end of first year.

What do you think about this offer? It does not look brilliant to me. Which country does $2500 go further in - Kuwait or Saudi. Would I be correct in assuming that Saudi is a little bit cheaper than Kuwait?

Saudi and Oman are countries that I would prefer to teach in, but anyone with info on this place - it would be good to hear from you.

Thank you,

Ghost in Korea

Hi there,

SOS recruitment have the MOD contract at the moment but I think its coming up for renewal by the summer and its no sure thing that the contract will stay with them- so if youre looking for a career prospect rather than a stop gap I wouldnt go for it. Aside from that like VS said the salary is pathetic and there are certainly better paid jobs in Kuwait let alone the rest of the gulf. Your salary will definately go further in Saudi than Kuwait as the cost of living is considerably cheaper. My advise would be to shop around a little more. I hear Qatar Petroleum are looking for people and aren't too bad

all the best.

Teaching at the MOD regardless of the current contract awardee involves using the archaic Audio LIngual Approach using mandated (illegally copied) DLA material which is the 20 year old version without CDs, updated dialouge, etc.
Teacher follows text to a letter
"Cap" (or my personal favorite "buttcan")
Repeat "Cap"for whole class
"Cap"
Private Al Oteibe Repeat "Cap"
"Kab"
Repeat "Ca Ca Ca aaahhhh pah"
"Kab"
No, "Pppah" Repeat "Cap"
Demonstrate will a kleenex
class laughs
"Kap"

Repeat for Privates Azmi, Ajmi and Mutawa

"THis is a cap" Repeat "This is a cap"
"Zdis iz a kab"

Break

Also, there is a camera in the classroom - you will be monitored by a Colonel who doesn't speak English and knows nothing about teaching
Qualitas will let you go without notice or force unpaid leave on you.
Ghost, surely Korea is better than this?
