Teachers working in / thinking of working in New Zealand may like to check out these teaching materials and resources. Feel free to add links to your own or others you would like to recommend.

ESOL online

This is a set of resources for teachers of ESOL in New Zealand, produced by the Ministry of Education

Teaching tips and resources

This is a set of ideas and materials for classroom teaching, from the newsletter of TESOLANZ, the ESOL teachers' association in NZ.

Vocabulary games and activities

This is the webpage for CanTESOL, the branch of TESOLANZ for the Christchurch region. It contains a number of exercises by Yvonne Hynson and others with a local focus.

Academic English Podcast

This is a weekly online programme that I produce. It includes audio and text and focuses on high int / advanced level vocabulary and listening texts with an academic and/or cultural focus. This week's podcast features the word 'authentic' and focuses on Maori cultural tourism.

MacMillan elessons

These are self-contained lessons based on texts, either at pre-int or int plus level. I write some of the int plus lessons and include NZ references from time to time. This week's theme (lesson 69) is Matariki, the Maori New Year celebration.

ESL News

This is a weekly programme for elementary and pre-int level learners. Each week, the programme focuses on a recent news story and it includes audio and onscreen text. This week's programme, for instance, is about the demolition of a large hotel in Christchurch, following the earthquakes.

Interview with Jill Hadfield

This is an interview with Jill, who is a well-known figure in the English teaching scene here in Auckland.
