Hello, this is my first time posting to this forum. I have been reading some of the post and they have been helpful and informative. I am strongly considering a move to Governador Valaderas because my wife and her family are from there and we have a home located there as well. Part of what has held me back from making a jump over to there is that I have not been sure how I could make $. She (my wife) and friends from Brazil have insisted for some time that teaching English to business professionals was a realistic option, but still I have been a little skeptic. Since discovering this site and others I am thinking perhaps it may be an option if I can find the right path. I start a TEFL professional certification program in a couple of weeks through the TEFL Institute. Also I will likely go over there with a permanent Visa rather that a tourist one. I am hoping there is someone on this forum that has been to this town in Minas and can give me their impression/ experience of it and also what kind of English teaching opportunities might be found there or in surrounding towns that are within a daily commuting distance. |

If I were you- I've been to Valadares-but only for few nights more than 20 years ago and I've taught in Brazil before.
I would learn about gemstones, found everywhere in Minas Gerais, especially in nearby Teofilo Otoni, and sell them on the internet.
English teaching pays little in Brazil, even with private students- from my experience.
I would open an ebay and paypal account while you are abroad, then use ebay to sell stones in N. America, and world wide.
see what's selling on ebay and you will see that I have a point.
My opinion.
best to you
