Hello all,

First off I would like to thank everyone for their useful information. I will be flying into Lima on the 8th of Sept. Fortunately I have some friends who are university students that will be welcoming me into their country. First thing I would like to do in Lima is enroll in some sort of crash course intensive Spanish program for a week or so. Does anyone know of any cheap programs I could get into?

I will also be looking for work but wanted to freshen up on my Spanish skills first. Also, If anyone wants to meet up for coffee sometime I would love to hear your stories and make some contacts. Cheers

G

I don't think that you're going to find cheap courses here in Liam, expect a couple hundred bucks a week, and housing costs are high. YOu might be better off hiring a private teacher. Here a couple that I've heard good things about

HOmestay plus lessons, pretty affordable

EL Sol, good, but expensive

A list of schools, scroll down to 5E

But there are lots of other courses at www.studyabroad.com

I'm up for coffee if you're interested, there's meetings with expats that can be found here http://calendar.yahoo.co.uk/naturegirl321

Other good links are
www.expatperu.com
www.livinginperu.com

and check your PM for info about good places to work for

Are you sure you want to spend that kind of money on a course? Spanish is one of those languages where you can get book smart and then apply it after if you study the right way. Also Peruvians for the most part don't talk at a speed or with an accent that is overly difficult for English speakers. If you're staying long term Spanish will start to sink in and you will have a little extra that you will need in your pocket.
