Hi! Does anybody know anything about the primary/ secondary school
programme which is affiliated to the Uni. of Bilkent in Ankara?
Although I have the qualifications that they are looking for ( MA , PGCE , 1st Degree and TEFL cert.) I felt that their requirements were unusually
high considering that this is not a UNI teaching post. What does everyone else think ??!! The proposed salary is 1500 , which seems higher than normal in Turkey......and may account for the specifications ?
Also , has anyone come across any Uni . lecturing posts with an ELT to Young learners bias ? (My area) I haven't been able to find anything to date........
Finally , any low down on life in Ankara would be appreciated. I've read the guide books , looked at the net etc , but still can't get a sense of how it is ........grim , or Western convenient ??? Many thanks. |

Compared to Istanbul, Ankara is a crappy, boring dump. And it's colder in the winter, too. Some people like it, but I personally would never live there when jobs in Istanbul are easier to find. just my 2 cents.. |

It depends on what you are comparing it to. Ankara is a big city and there are things going on. But it is not California. If you want that.........stay in California !
An illustration about different perceptions. I know a Brit tecahing in Saudi Arabia. His previous job was in Ankara, which he left because it was "too Islamic". Well sometimes the people you meet in EFL are so weird that you just cannot figure them out, or understand how they see the world ! |

There was an ad last week, maybe it's gone now. They'll almost certainly start recruiting for next academic year in January. |
