1. Tapwater drinkable in Lima and suburbs? Middle Class may prefer bottled, but do poor locals buy bottled in Lima, or do they just boil tapwater to drink? I cannot afford your suggested bottle service. I shocked wussies in Taiwan by always drinking water from tap, dismissing them with: "hey this aint India!"
2. Re your cost list, can you confirm a few shockers: Pocket CD player US$200? In USA it costs US$30, Peru costs 600soles?
Pocket DVD player 6" screen US$250? In USA it costs US$100, Peru costs 750soles?
3. How much for a music CD? In USA it costs US$15. In Buenos Aires I bought Beethoven CD's for AR15 (US$5) each.
4. How much for cheap plug-in radio, maybe 6"x10" weighing 1lb? In USA it costs US$15.
5. In Lima where can I buy 120>220 volt converter? How much? In Buenos Aires I bought one for AR30 (US$10), but I lost it!
6. In Lima where could I buy recharge batteries and recharger? In USA recharger costs US$20.
7. On Lima radio can I hear classical music and BBC World Service?

Here are your answers.

If you don't buy bottled, then either boil it, or buy water purifiying tablets (but I don't think that you can buy them here) Or just forget about water and drink bottled juice.

Real CDs, about 5 USD, burnt ones, maybe 4 CDs for 3 USD. But who really buys CDs anymore? We just download music.

I'm not really sure. But if you go to the market, should be about the same 15 USD.

Radio Shack would have it. Or any market. Probably 10 to 15USD.

Again, Radio Shack or in the market. I bought a recharger 3 years ago, cost 60 soles, probably you could get one for 45 soles now.

7. On Lima radio can I hear classical music and BBC World Service? Razz
Yeah right. I think there's a classical station, but not very good reception. There0's mostly cumbia ugh, or Spanish pop, or English pop. BBC, forget it. BUt with internet, you can really listen to anything. Download it and put it on an MP3 or MP4, they're about 30 USD for a small one here.

Not there yet. Still have to finish the school year until November, go back to the US to get a visa and sell our flat.
Luna Chica and keepwalking are also active posters, but in Trujillo. Luna Chica will be in Lima next year. But I think that keepwalking is going back home.
