What more can John confirm (or deny) about the rendezvous in Santa Fe 2 years ago? Nice to hear that you lady posters are aesthetically pleasing. NOT, of course, that it would matter if you weren't.
I guess it's my bad if SR wasn't refering to both you and VS...it seemed to be in that same breath/keystrokes... I jes' 'memper VS havin' to establish her gender over and over again a few years ago!

Dear NCTBA,
All is forgiven. I can see how it might have seemed the Sheik was referring to VS and me.
But I can vouch for VS's gender (and as for my own, hold on; let me check - yup, I'm a guy.)
Regards,
John |

Ya Sheikh... are you trying to start rumors now? The lovely Mrs Johnslat also welcomed me to their home and I camped that night in their driveway in my little RV (or caravan if you prefer).
And I was at one time offered a job at the women's branch of the IPA ten or eleven years back when JohnS was still teaching there I believe. But, I ended up in Kuwait instead.

Back to the OP-
I've heard there is a huge loss of faculty at the end of this semester- especially female.
Anyone over there who can comfirm this? Anyone want to explain why? |

And back to the first tangent (sorry Isabel!):
So igaals are 'banned' in government schools? I thought they weren't to be worn by school kids because they wear it on their final graduation (i.e. they are men now)...
And one of the supposed origins of the igaal is, quite simply, a rope to tie your camel with! I must say that it really keeps your shomagh/ghutra on...even when there's quite a gusty sea wind blowing in the afternoon...
I used to wear a shomagh, thinking 'when in Rome...', then I realised that many people (including the Saudis) don't don the headgear! This is in Jeddah, might I add. I wouldn't leave the house without one on in, say, Tabuk where I might get crucified or get shouts of "Ibb!!" on the streets!

Also, a ghutra or white shomagh is WICKED in shielding you from the sun during the quite oppressive hot summer afternoons...
Try it! |
