Hey everyone... I was directed to this site when I inquired about teaching in Latin America.

I will graduate in December 2010 with a BS in social studies and a minor in political science. I will also have a secondary education teaching certificate.

Before then, I plan on taking a year of Spanish, as well as hopefully attending a 7 week intensive language course in Spanish next summer in Mexico.

I have never actually been anywhere in Latin America... however, I am really passionate and set on teaching there.

This is all I know.. I am literally lost after that. I don't know anything about certification, what to do when you move.. anything.

I have about a year left here so I'm trying to get a head start on all of my plans.

I would really appreciate any and all help any of you could give me.

Thanks so much in advance!

There is quite a bit of general information here in the archives when you do a forum search. I spent months on the internet when planning my escape to Mexico. I also read many books. I planned well in advance like you are doing. If you had some specific questions, posters here will be glad to answer them. Your planned intensive Spanish course here this summer will also undoubtedly give you much insight to what it's like living here. It is a great adventure.

What, specifically are you looking for answers on? Information sources vary quite a bit. And not all are created equally.

i suppose my biggest problem is i just have so many questions...

*what kind of certifications do i need in order to teach there?

*what do i need to do in order to legally move and work there?

*are there specific areas within mexico that would be safer for me to go?

Get your teaching certificate apostilled, and that should be sufficient.

You will arrive on a tourist card and then apply for work permission when you get hired.

Avoiding the border cities is always a given. Those cities are rough.
