Guty -

yes Laughing

But, all is relative and everyone has the right to their opinion. I'm glad that you are happy with your life in Doha. The one thing that I have noted through the years was that everyone who spoke of liking their stint in Doha was married. Shebab and Cleo are both single - so for them forewarned is forearmed. Neither of them are newbies to the ME.

Cleo,

Normally employers want copies of the letters of reference and graduation certificates. Make photocopies and mail them - or fax them?

VS,
I am in Doha no longer, and it is only after being elsewhere in the gulf I appreciate the benefits that were there. Memory does weird things.

Cool

i have spent three days in Doha...
boring dull dull boring...well it doesnt mean, we dont think it is nice looking.

Good beaches, clear perfect waters, but can women and men swim freely in them? I didn't get to find out.

But i can assure you..i knew I was in hicks-ville before i finished clearing customs....plus all those military boys with a nervous look in their eyes...

you call that a SOUQ...I call it um a mini mall with crap 1970's style clothing from cool places like Turkey! Give me Muscat or Dubai anyday over Doha.. Doha is ten years behind.

Cars stopped and asked me if I wanted a TOUR....hahaha...i guess the residents were also BORED.

Doha does have a few bars, movies, malls and even techno-discos. It's also got home-made Anglo things like drama, music clubs, a choir and walking and diving clubs though to be honest there's not much to see above or below water. But it's far nicer than Saudi and far cheaper than Dubai - because you won't be spending so much.
Working for the University is reckoned to be OK. Even when the money was poor, the accomodation was said to be very nice. If they're offering both then go for it.

Hello,
Friend of mine applied for a job at the Uni in Qatar ages before the deadline and has heard NADA - has anyone who applied had an acknowledgement or an interview date or a call or anything yet?

I suppose I shouldn't generalize, esp. since I know nothing about the Uni of Catarhh, but my experience in the Gulf is that nothing seems to happen for ages, and then suddenly it's all go!

Could be the same thing here.

Rumour in the bars here is that the deadline has been extended. But nothing official.

Good to know there are bars where rumours can be spread!!

However, the positions are no longer being advertised on the University website ......

Does anybody actually have any up-to-date information on working at the University? Housing, salary, benefits, negative points?

Many thanks.

I suspect - based on an earlier post about how they were getting all their current teachers to reapply - that perhaps they don't actually plan to take on new teachers, but due to some shake-up had to go through the motions of advertising positions. It's probably illegal not to 'recruit' people without doing so - at least it is in KSA.

Those were some motions. Large ads in major newspapers in North America. Not exactly cheap, simply to fullfill some obligation.

I stand corrected.

I wan't aware of those big ads in US papers. I had thought they only advertised locally and on the net.
