I've long known the Lonely Planet for Colombia wasn't what it could be, and now there's confirmation...

I know I keep buying LP guides, but now I'm not so sure....

The entire Pacific coast (Choco, etc.) has been deleted from the book, because the author has made the decision for us that it is too dangerous to visit. The truth probably is that the "chick" he was dating probably didn't know anything about the region!

A terrible book. There are much better guidebooks on the market for Colombia.

We got the June 09 book and it was pretty dead-on for Medellin and Guadape. A lot of people that we talked to complained abt the poor quality of the 06 book but agreed that the 09 book is much better. What are the better guidebooks for Colombia, shebab?

Thanks for the info, I'll be sure to avoid that one.

The Brandt guide (from England) is the only other book that I know of which has a book dedicated solely to Colombia. I have the '08 edition and it was pretty damn spot on, at least in Antioquia. Obviously the currency exchange fluctuates and prices rise, but it is an EXCELLENT book, as opposed to the steaming turd pile which is Lonely Planet Colombia.
