I was wondering what places are must sees in Brazil!!! Can anyone share some hidden treasures? I do not know much about places to travel to besides San Paulo, Rio, and Salvador. So I was wondering what there is to see in Brazil if you go live there for a while?

My favorite cities are Salvador and Florianopolis. But I like also like Rio.
You can't miss Iguazu.
If you are into the being adventurous and the jungle thing... I heard that trips on the Amazon from Belem are great fun.

i hope to be in manaus at the end of june for one of the cities biggest parties. im a gringo to the fullest and my newest brazilian friends tell me i'm gonna love it. other than that ive only been to a few cities in minas and the beach in northern sao paulo which has awesome little towns scattered along the coast (i visited marisius *sp., boicucanga and cambury). good parties at night on the beach and a great atmosphere. I plan also to travel to rio in a couple months, then down the amazon and over to bahia in july. tchau

As an American :

In Rio, I would totally do all the tourist stuff. It's worth it! Corcovado is awesome, Pao de Acucar is marvellous, and Parque Nacional de Tijuca is bizzangin. If you wanna do something a little grittier and are a movie buff, visit Central Station (do you know the famous movie of the same name?) But don't go without a Brazilian friend.

destinations Brasilians love:

Parati. It's amazing, historic, an eco-treasure. It's about halfway btwn Rio & SP.

in the NE Fernando de Noronha is every Brasilians vacation desire. Every time I asked a student of mine "Where would you like to travel on your next vacay" they'd unanimously say F de N. It's a protected island and supposed to be extremely beautiful.

In the south, go to Curitiba. It's the Southern Brasilian's dream vacay. My inlaws are always expounding upon its virtues.

Then on the coast of SP, everyone goes to Ubatuba beach. And in the NE, they go to Recife.

I dunno about Manaus. To me, it's only good for people who are slumming it. It's actually pretty dangerous. My best friend lived there for a year and she loved the nature, but was scared a lot. But it is the major city of the Amazon and it should be cool.

That's enough from me! Smile
