Jeddah Knowledge School..can anybody provide some info about this school? is it worth going there?
I was scared while reading about being a "prisoner" of the employer, with passport kept in his safe and "exit" visa? Please, either scare me more or just tell me it's a forum "song" for newbies...

Nope, no snipehunts here! It's all up to your level of tolerance. I hear now that some are allowed to keep their passports...which are useless unless you have an "Exit Only" or "Exit/Re-Entry" placed within.

An unknown entity that you mentioned would definitely keep your passport, and, most likely, seem disinterested in any personal plight that might suddenly arise in yer life.

Jeddah Knowledge School is a sort of vip school. I know for sure enrollment fees there could be considered very expensive or perhaps rip-off . They are located in Al-Salama 2 District; in a relatively fancy area surrounded with big malls and supermarkets. They are currently expanding; a new adjacent building is being constructed next to the girls school.

"vip" - meaning, you are more a governor than a teacher? Yes, the fees are hefty, but what about the salaries?

Please don't take this as a criticism, but I was just discussing with a new teacher on her way to the Gulf about the p/b problem in Arabic. Is Arabic your first language? Or have you been in the Middle East for too long? You do know that it should be "rip-off" ... ?

Sorry for the interruption... Cool

My advice - do not teach in any private school in the KofSA.

Because the 'inmates run the asylum'... so to speak. The kids run the show and the parents and administration tend to back the little 'darlings' up 100%. It takes a very brave and easy going person to deal with many of the issues.

And it seems the higher the 'wasta' or VIP level of these families, the worse these issues. I agree with Scot... but then we are both university level teachers. Laughing

Even private universities have much of the "inmates run the asylum" approach, and thus the difficulty (or near impossibility) of them ever receiving any kind of accreditation, even from the Saudi accrediting authorities.

I can be "an uni teacher", too, with my credentials, but want money...and , besides, they offered me a position of a special ed. teacher..but I'm not sure I really want to accept something where I have to keep my passport somewhere and ask, with difficulties to get - for "exit"visa in case of...that's scary.
Actually, a friend of mine was running away from the college "vip" students and their fantasies...kids are better.IMHO! But thank you for the input, I appreciate it. Any bit of info helps... Smile

Um...at the school that you describe teaching "VIP" kids...ALL teachers will be "special ed." teachers! Take it from a former "special ed." teacher in saudi.
