The BBC2 TV programmes covering the "Frankincense Trail"
are available on the BBC iPlayer at:-
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00mfcf9/The_Frankincense_Trail_Oman_Yemen_and_Saudi_Arabia/

The first programme opens in the Dhofar region in Oman; features camel-jumping in Yemen; and includes an interview with a head of the mutawaa in the centre of Riyadh. The second programme will show more of the K.S.A. .

I believe that these programmes are informative - and they will be of particular interest to those teachers considering a first posting in the peninsula. Smile

Hi TT-Kira,

Are you unable to view the programmes on the 'BBC iPlayer'? Sad

"The Frankincense Trail" is being shown on the BBC1 and BBC2 TV channels during the next few weeks...
There are a total of 4 shows in this series.
The schedules for BBC 2 TV are available at:- http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbctwo/programmes/schedules/england/2009/08/27

Maybe the series will be shown on BBC World TV channel - the BBC TV channel most widely available via satellite... later this year...
Anyway, for the record, the webpage for the scheduling
of shows on BBC World is:-
http://www.bbcworldnews.com/Pages/Schedules.aspx

The BBC iPlayer cannot be played outside the UK, some copyright laws stuff.

I hope the programs are shown on BBC World. I always watch all the documentaries on BBC World and keep any eye on the schedules.

Rats... I had planned to watch these later today. And we can't even get BBC World in the US... in spite of all the letters I have written to the BBC and local cable systems. (only one TV system - Verizon - has added it in the last couple years, but it is very limited coverage... a very few large urban areas)

VS, have you tried accessing BBC World on a free online TV website?

I can view BBC World on:- http://freetubetv.net/ , for example,
by simply clicking on the 'News' link and then selecting the channel.

Geronimo your http://freetubetv.net/ link is blocked in KSA.

Or maybe it's just in Taif, which would show how uncool Taif is (apart from the weather)

Any free to use proxy servers that are not blocked in the Kingdom? A pm might be an idea if anyone has any replies.

VS,

If it is not on Fox or CNN do you really need to see it, hear it or know it? Laughing

In the US, PBS carries BBC world news and many BBC documentaries while NPR or is it PNR carries BBC and CBC radio broadcasts. The CBC and BBC are particularly interesting now, given the discussion on the healthcare reform. Of course there is the usual run of informative and intelligent exchange of ideas in the form of in depth interviews with actual experts...yawn.

Thanks John, will be sure to catch it.

If anyone has time you may want to check out this site and navigate for radio and video programs. If you can catch the Mansbridge 'One on One' series; some very interesting minds are interviewed in a non argumentative manner.

here is the link to Mansbridge

Not a chance on those first two. Twisted Evil I have been watching the BBC feed on PBS for many years now.

For about a year, I bombarded BBC complaining about their BBC America news schedule. They had one broadcast at like 6:00 in the morning, then the same one that PBS showed - at the same time, and one at 1:00 in the morning... nothing on weekends. I gave up and canceled the extra tier because I wasn't interested in any of the programs (not much of a TV watcher). But now I see that they have two newscasts now, early and late evening... and Top Gear has been added. I may have to reconsider. Laughing

Amazing that in this world of the '1000 channels' the provider doesn't carry BBC world or CBC International but offers a choice among 20 shopping networks?? Is Al Jazeera available to you?

Keep up the fight!
