Hi,
I've been thinking of going to St Petersburg around March or April. Has anyone been there before or how have they found the city to live and work in? It seems, from all I have read here, it is not worth signing a contract with one of the big schools before going. The idea of working 30 hours a week for 4 dollars an hour doesn't greatly appeal, when I can get four times as much in western Europe (where I live). Yet it seems to me the biggest problem then for a foreigner going to Russia, if a school isn't taking care of it, is accomodation. I have no contacts in the city and though I am learning Russian, my standard is still fairly primitive. Does anyone know what the general accomodation standard is like in Petersburg, how much an apartment might cost, where it could be found? On the net I can only find exorbitant places along Nevsky Prospect for 1000 dollars a month or so, which is way too much. Any advice or first hand knowledge would be muich appreciated!
thanks
