I'd take Oman any day over a post in the Emirates, but that just me. The people are very friendly, not as wealthy as Emiratis and more down to earth, more secure in their identity as Omanis (with greater ethnic, cultural, geographical diversity); not always well-prepared for academic studies, especially in the smaller colleges as SQU attracts the top students, but this lack of preparation/seriousness about education is a general characteristic of Arab Gulf students. Just gotta go with the flow, establish a rapport with students, etc.

So would I. Qatar was abyssmal, like the UAE - full of spoiled pretentious know it all students. The social life was pretty minimalistic and the government has closed down establishments that were cheap and popular in order to promote the very pricey bars in hotels (full of young ladies looking for fun...)

Luckily I am teaching in one of the UAE outposts or I'd go bonkers. These kids are more down to earth. Money does corrupt, no doubt about it.

When I've finished paying off my mortgage, it's back to Oman for me.

I just thought you all might like to know that it seems the new University of Bureimi has postponed it's opening. From what I understand, the Austrian link has been severed as well as the English Language contract.

I also found out by mistake that you need to take your passport with you to travel from Sohar to Bureimi. Ooops.

That may explain why I cannot any longer access the UoB website from Kuwait, though I thought the problem was with the Internet in Kuwait.

So you mean the UoB has ceased to exist?
And why did the Austrian Krems University severe their ties with Buraimi?

My understanding is that UoB cut the ties with Austria not the other way round. They intend to start again with a new university next year. I wasn't told the reasons but maybe someone else here knows something.

I don't know either if teachers were brought in or they cancelled before anyone arrived. But I saw that UoB is empty at present.
