Is there any chance for an American to get summer work in the UK?

There are some spring and summer vacancies for EFL teachers on

http://www.europa-pages.com/www_write/eltoffers.html

They're looking for native speakers - I don't know if that includes Daughters of the Revolution!

The ads for summer school have just started to appear in The Guardian newspaper. At the moment most are concerned with DoS, ADoS and senior positions. Try the online site at www.jobsunlimited.com....I think.

From experience I can tell you that the pay is not so good but many schools offer accomodation.

An interesting and informative thread could be made if you asked for horror stories of summer school on the general discussion site.

Hey thanks for the other links. The tefl.com one works, but the jobsunlimited.com doesn't. Maybe it's blocked here in China.
Is the full link

Hey
It's actually www.jobsunlimited.co.uk - there is a quicker way to get to it but can't remember it. Alternatively just go into any search engine and look for 'Education Guardian'. Best day to look (as far as I can remember is Tuesday/Wednesday) as I think this is when the new jobs are posted.

Summer school in the UK can be great - I've had 2 very positive experiences in my 4 years of teaching and would even go back to one of them.

Just a little point to bear in mind....

The little terrors you teach could represent an income for you if you are hired over the net and could represent the summer school as an agent while you are abroad and recruit students for them. It is profitable, but there are many toes and you need to careful not to tread on anyone else's toes.

While most summer schools are for kids and involve teaching the little darlings Confused as well as being involved in fun activities such as taking them to London or a nice Theme park where you can (safely) lose them, there are also schools who specialise in Adult courses.
Most schools seem to be inLondon - obviously - as well as the coastal towns (usually in the south), there are also schools in the 'prettier' cities such as Cambridge, Oxford and Canterbury.
It can be tough but generally it's a great laugh.
