What do you think of this job offer? Is it decent? Have you heard of the company?

Thank you for your inquiry and interest in tutoring for Living English Plus. This small and growing business has been highly regarded as an important part of the education system here in San Pedro Sula.

Living English Plus was created for students to obtain and maintain successful grades. Tutors are hired for one to one private tutoring in the homes of students and adults. These students are most often attending private bilingual schools (Spanish and English as a Second Language) and require additional help in all subjects taught in English.

These private tutoring sessions focus on homework review, test and quiz preparation, phonics, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and reading and comprehension. Each session usually runs for one hour to 2 hours per student. Classes are most often held in the students home or in our classroom between 3:00 p.m. 6:30 p.m Students will be given extra handouts and some supplementary books will be given.

This position offers a pay of $6 per hour. The regular school year is from September until June. It is recommended that you bring extra money to cover your living expenses and any personal spending money.

Participants will be responsible for tutoring services anywhere between 2:30 6:00 p.m on site (our class). Therefore there will be no need for transportation to student homes unless desired.

Tutoring hours will normally range from 2 4 hours a day and 2-3 hours on Saturday.

While I've never heard of them, they describe themselves as many, many other smaller English training outfits do. Same types of hours, same pay, same types of students as schools or tutoring groups right across Latin America.

$6 an hr? Honduras? Maybe I'd rather shovel coal.
I do agree with Guy Courchesne. There's nothing new about this ad. It's very typical of this region. Many of these places are here today and gone tomorrow.
Absolutely nothing special here...for me, anyway.

Thanks for the info. The more I thought about this job, the worse it seems.

$6 per hour in San Pedro may be the going rate for outfits like this, maybe a little better (assuming you actually get paid that much). San Pedro has little to recommend it in terms of weather, culture, safety, etc., but it has its moments. If you could get that salary elsewhere, say Santa Rosa, or Choluteca, or Trujillo, that would be different. Honduras is a very poor ocuntry, even by Central American standards. If a teaching job is great in Honduras, you have little or no chance at it unless you are in Honduras, and have experience in Honduras.
