Hi, I've just been offered a job with British Institutes Palermo, in Sicily, paying 800 euros a month. This is my first teaching job, its for four months. Is this a decent amount of pay and does anyone know anything about the school? I've read some bad things about 'British Institute' places....
Please help!! |

Hello,Sharan. I am a Sicilian-American who lives on the outskirts of Palermo.I occcasionally teach English here. 800 per month is a borderline starvation salary here, but if you watch your P's and Q's , you should get by. Bring a few thousand or just in case! For a first teaching job ,800 at BI is something. The place has it's problems, but it is not the only English school in Palermo. After 4 months there, you can probably find better. If you are not familiar with Sicilian culture, the place can be a bit odd. It helps to know SOME basic Italian. Check out "www.bestofsicily.com ,in English, for some REAL info on Sicilian customs. If you have any specific questions, I will answer them for you if I have the answer! Feel free to contact me at "[email protected]." It MAY take me a couple or three days to get back to you, but I will.Take care. |
