Hi there,

Can someone please advise me where I can find information about salary levels in Rome for teachers :) . Iím a qualified teacher both of EFL and secondary school (thatís high-school in the US) English with about 3 years experience. However I havenít been teaching for four years now, but for various reasons Iím considering leaving my secure job in IT and coming to Rome in the near future. Trouble is I canít find any information out there on what it pays to be a teacher in Rome and whether or not Iím being incredibly foolish to leave secure employment for the sometimes insecure world of EFL. If anyone could advise me on the possibility of finding business teaching work in Roma too Iíd be most grateful. Iím an EU citizen so work permits should hopefully not pose a problem.
Thanks and regards,

Martin

Hello Martin,

You have a difficult decision to make, but I've seen this many times....some people might ask, "you're bloody mad, why would you leave a secure IT job in Dublin to teach English in Rome?"

The answer is, "For the lifestyle!!!!" You however have a significant advantage over many people on these forums in that you have EU citizenship, which makes life (at least legally speaking) much easier for you.

There's a website called Romebuddy (www.romebuddy.com) that will give you loads of useful information on Rome (though the webmasters are incredibly bitter people who apparently don't like Italians very much)

I don't think it will have the salary information you request, but you might find some useful links in there.

Whilst it is true that Rome is cheaper than cities such as Milan, Venice, etc.....it is getting more expensive.

Learning English is quite trendy these days, I don't think you should have any trouble in finding work in Rome.

good luck to you and always remember, if you really want to do it, you can !

best wishes,

Arin
