Hi all,
In April i'm moving to Argentina on a pretty permanent basis. I've already visited the country and know where i want to be- Mendoza. I'll be entering on a 3 month tourist visa...
I'm selling my flat in England and would very much like to buy somewhere to live in Mendoza while the peso is so weak and the proceeds of the sale of my flat would probably buy about 8 of the same in Argentina!! I was wondering whether anyone out there has purchased property in Argentina and could give me any information about how to go about it. i.e are there any problems of foreign ownership, what kind of costs are incurred on top of the price of the property, do they try to overcharge foreigners-my Spanish is pretty good but not fluent so it would probably be fairly easy to scam me if they really tried?
Also, my girlfriend lives in Santiago and i'll be going to visit her on a pretty regular basis, at least twice a month. I know that irregular border crossings don't incur any problems at the border but will my regular visits make them suspicious and cause problems?????? (please don't offer the advice of going to live in santiago as it's the most unpleasant place on earth and i've done my fair share of travelling and been to some pretty horrible places!!)
Finally, could anyone who has worked or is working in Mendoza give me a few ideas as to which are the most reputable schools to work at.
Thank you very much for any help you can give me,
Matt Ridgway |

Try the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Travel Section and the Argentinian Consulate. Between them they should be able to point you in the right direction regarding the mechanics of buying property in Argentina. Perhaps there are firms of solicitors in the UK that specialise in this field? |
