My lovely lady and I will be arriving in San Jose during the first week of July for a year (or more) in Costa Rica. Can you recommend any reasonably priced, but good (i.e. safe, reasonable quality, internet connectivity, etc) hotels in San Jose?
We're going to have quite a bit of stuff naturally, so we definitely would like to arrange a shuttle to pick us up from the airport. We might be there a night or we might be there 2 weeks...What do you think? |

When I was preparing to fly out of Costa Rica recently (where I was taking an immersion Spanish course), my early morning flight got cancelled because the pilot had a heart attack (before he got to the airport - he's doing fine now). The airline (Continental) put me up in the Best Western Irazu in San Jose for the day until the next flight (which wasn't until around 10:00 p.m.). It was a pretty decent place. |

The Adventure Inn on the east side of San Jose looks pretty good for your purposes. It has lots of tours leaving from there and is operated by a Canadian. They also have a shuttle from the airport. We will be staying there for 2 weeks in January and have looked at several other hotels. |

Don Carlos hotel in Barrio Amon in San Jose is really nice. My Mom and I stayed there for a few nights when she came to visit. The hotel is an old coffe baron's house and is family owned. Excellent service and there is a restaurant that serves pretty good food. Breakfast included if I remember. It's located in a historic district on the eastside of San Jose and has airport pickup. You can also book tours through them that leave from a hotel a block away. It's also close to the bus stop for buses to San Pedro, Cartago, Tres Rios, Zapote and so forth. |

The best western irazu (not in irazu, but 5 miles from the airport) is fantastic. Great bar, good location, very helpful staff. |
