My mom went to school there at Philippine Women's University. I am also the great-granddaughter of General Paulino Santos - founder of General Santos City - which is discussed in that thread you pasted. GenSan is 4 hours away from Davao and we visited both cities during my family's stay. GenSan is relatively young in its development (but is considered to be one of the fastest developing cities in Asia) whereas Davao is a much more established urban area. I love them both. I didn't feel unsafe in either city - much of the Abu Sayyaf incidents have been in North Cotabato or Basilan. There are checkpoints everywhere.
As for foreigners - I did see more European and Aussie vacationers in Davao - it is a more established tourist destination, plus it's just a short ferry ride from the resorts on Samal Island like Pearl Farm, etc. via the dock at the InterContinental Hotel. What are you interested in finding in terms of work? |

I appreciate your response. I am interested in ESL there. A school just recently contacted me. |

Among the islands in Mindanao, Davao is the safest. The Mayor of Davao City is the law... |

Mayor Duerte is a no nonsense mayor. His official stance is if you are a terrorist, then expect to die. No quarter given, none asked. |
