Is it possible to find teaching work in India...even low pay outside the big cities?

Musicmunky,

I hate to sound unhelpful, but why don't you take a look at some of the other threads on this board; I'm quite sure your question has already been answered.

Having said that...there must be half a million or more schools and other educational institutions in India, and I'm willing to bet that the vast majority of them would be happy to have a trained native or near native English language teacher on their faculty, but, as you seem to understand, the vast majority of those could only pay you a local wage. I suspect that some could provide accommodation and lunch as well, but I think the average teaching salary would be around 10 -20,000 Rs per month, depending on location, public vs. private, etc. University salaries come in around 30,000 per month. These salaries (as I've stated elsewhere) are very difficult for westerners to live on, and would probably need to be supplemented with savings. I'm not saying it can't be done, but you would have to give up most of the luxuries you are used to back home.
The more financially lucrative option is to work for a business or a call center, and this has also been discussed in other threads. Do some research, and if you have more specific questions, feel free to ask.

One final note: If you are interested in breaking into the International school market, I really think countries like India can give new teachers the experience that is often required by more established schools in more developed countries without having to do one's time in one's home country. Again, you wouldn't be making any money to speak of, but you could enjoy the overseas experience in a wonderful country!

Namaste,

Nozka

Hm..that's interesting. I wouldn't have even imagined that India would hire foreign english teachers at the college level.

Are they legit college teaching jobs - where they hire well-qualified foreigners with TESOL MA degrees and a lot of experience?

Or would the be more of the any foreigner face with a pulse, kind of like China when it comes to foreign teachers teaching at the college level?
