Hi all,
Can anyone please offer any advice on thinking up a field/outdoor game for Italian teenagers (14-16 years) which emphasises spoken English in some way, and how one would preteach particular vocab? (not traditional sport like football/baseball etc)
It is for an application for an English summer camp in Italy, and, not being sporty, I am really really stuck!!Keen to get app. away ASAP.
Any help at all would be very much appreciated!
Cheers, thetest x |

The specific vocab could be movement verbs. Like run, jump, hop, crawl etc. Then combine it with specific objects that you have outside. Maybe tree, bin, fence? Or you could put stuff out yourself.
Then you could just shout out a movement to a place ("run to the bin, hop to the puddle" and eliminate the last person to get there each time. I'm sure there are other ways of doing this. You might have difficulty convincing some teenagers to do this, make sure you engender a fun atmosphere in your classes with lots of pair and group work, so they all feel comfortable with each other.
It's been a while since I've done lessons outside, but there are all sorts of things you can do. Maybe a giant running dictation, or giving directions to a blindfolded partner? I remember one ridiculous game where groups sat opposite each other at either end of a long corridor. I dictated a sentence to the groups at one end. They wrote it down in their mother tongue on a piece of paper, folded it into a paper aeroplane and threw it to their partner group. They then translated it into English and and did the same thing. The first team to get back a correct translation got a point.
Hope this helps, good luck! |
