Hello, I want to come to teach english in Italy with my girlfriend. We both will have 2 yrs teaching experience in Korea, her at a good worldwide adult academy. We also both have tefl certificates.

I have 3 questions:

1.Im an EU citizen, she is from the states. I heard it is very tough for non-eu citizens to get visa sponsorship...Would it be possible?! Are some countries more likely to grant it than others? Would there be some way to get around it, eg. her studying and maybe doing privates on the side?

2. What time of year is the easiest to find a job in Europe.

3. Is it worthwhile to get a Celta, considering we both have tefl already?

Thanks

Hi Jamo

Just a couple of quick responses:

1.Im an EU citizen, she is from the states. I heard it is very tough for non-eu citizens to get visa sponsorship...Would it be possible?! Are some countries more likely to grant it than others? Would there be some way to get around it, eg. her studying and maybe doing privates on the side?

I think that's perhaps the easiest. She would need to enrol at an accredited institution, then she can work up to 20 hours a week. There's more info on how to stay in Italy for more than 90 days at the site expatsinitaly dot com.

2. What time of year is the easiest to find a job in Europe.
September onwards. Everything closes down mid-July to early-September in Italy.

3. Is it worthwhile to get a Celta, considering we both have tefl already?
Hard question. Partly it depends how far you can say your certificate is similar to a Celta. If it's a weekend certificate, then that's going to be difficult. Also depends on the variety of teaching you've already been doing. Can you teach business English, for example? On the whole, a Celta is going to make you more competitive - many schools ask for it as a minimum.
