At this point there is not enough history of this place/manager to know which of these posters is giving the real situation. So new applicants will just have to weigh the posts and decide whether to take the plunge.

Dr Ali only did 1 semester as HOD at a College of Applied Sciences and was sacked. No need for more comment.

Rather than attack the poster... can you expand on the comment? Did this person only last a semester? Was he sacked? Why?

My apologies, Alan..ing, I must have been mistaken. You are clearly a calm and reasonable person. Indeed, it must be the other poster who has fabricated a misleading assessment of the man and your opinion should be respected for the objective and fair categorization that it is.

Keep up the good work! I suppose that being jobless allows extra time for anonymous sniping at people through an internet forum.

Hi,
I posted my own thread asking about this place as I've just accepted an offer from them.
Has anyone worked here? If so is it a decent outfit to work for? I just wish the salary was a bit
More. Are there good shopping places nearby?
Cheers

Veiled Sentiments, how do you know that he was fired? Did you work with him? What was he like to work with? Somebody has told me that what alansilverlining said was true. So what do you think? Have you worked in Oman?

MOD edit for names

Is anyone going to answer my Q about working at this joint? Is it a decent outfit to work for? I am waiting for my ticket to go. It's only $2500 a month but I don't want to go to saudi, which is only 500 more anyway. Is there a hotel (bar) nearby to relax in? Do they pay on time?

This place only started giving classes in Sept 2010, I believe. If you have read all the pages here, you will see that getting any dependable information has been very difficult. It appears that no one knows. If no one shows up, you have to decide if you will take the plunge blind.

If you leave for Oman now, it will only be one semester and you can leave if you can't tolerate the conditions. I would have very low expectations. It all depends on how badly you need the job I guess...

Yes I read the posts and one or two were going to start in the Sept. I was hoping they might still check the forums and report back. Anyway, like you say VS I will just have to go in blind. I read that you need a car in Oman to get around. This will be extra costs. Why are the salaries lowish, I thought oman was an oil-rich country. I wonder whether overtime is available in the evenings. The contract is for 25hrs a week so plenty of time for extra work

Oman has some oil, but insignificant in comparison to other Gulf countries. Google could educate you on stuff like this. Laughing

I wouldn't count on overtime, but it is possible. A car is really needed in Oman because it is so spread out and public transport is limited. See the situation once you get there, and then try leasing at first until you know what you will do... go or stay. You will need your home country driving license to convert to a local license.
