Does Sudan give work visas to Americans?

Has anybody here lived in Khartoum? Any comments on crime, quality of life, cost of living, expat scene, prospects for learning (Modern Standard) Arabic?

I live in KRT and some of our teaching staff are American - and Aussies, S Africans, Bangladeshi, Pakistani, Canadian.........in fact you'll find plenty of "native speakers" legally employed here.

Quality of life can be fine, depending on your employer/salary.

Cost - high. You can save on a monthly salary of $1000 if you live a quiet life.

Crime - much less than in NY, London, etc.

Expat scene - very well hidden. If you can break into it you can have a ball - but that is no easy task.

Learning Arabic - very easy and not expensive.

PM me for any specifics

Dave

Returned 2 months ago with my Sudanese wife, following our 6 months exile in the Russian gulag. Was here most of last year - just getting fully up to speed on local info once more.

Hi,
Is celta accepted in Khartoum? Is it possible to teach without a celta? What is the going rate?

CELTA is accepted but there are plenty of schools, good and bad, who will take a native speaker with nothing! Going rate varies from $1300 to $10 per hour.

PM me if you need specifics.

Is there any demand for private tutoring?

1-to-1 is popular but you need to be experienced, good and well-known to pull in a client-base sufficient to pay your bills and make money over the top. $15 an hour will become $25+ only after a time.
