Here is another link (from the embassy in Washington D.C.) that tells you what you need to get a tourist or business visa on arrival. This seems like a good one to print out and bring with you when you board the plane... It doesn't suggest you might be asked for a return ticket and it shows that you simply need $20 for a tourist visa and $25 for a business visa.

Great link, Mr. Lucky Kahn ^ To protect yourself, you should bring this as a backup.
Update
Thanks for all of the replies and info, folks. You saved me money!
I had no problem at check-in in the US at the airport. I was asked if I had a visa, and I said no, and that I'd get one on arrival.
No problem.
No questions. Nothing asked to me about onward tickets or return tickets.
When I arrived to Phnom Penh, the Visa on Arrival was fast and easy.
Remember: NEVER take information from the customer reps at airlines companies. Nothing negative against them, but they just don't know.
Thanks to everyone on this thread. |

Cool...
I'm curious... did you check in with the same airline that had given you dodgy info?
While I agree that people should never seek info on immigration requirements from customer reps of airlines...it might be a bit dumb to stroll into an airlines office and be told you need XYZ and then show up and try checking in without it. Personally i didnt wanna take the risk and went with an airline that was more laid back/clued up.
Bane of the drifters life this stuff! |

Why not just spend the night in Bangkok and take the sleeper train into Cambodia the next day? Sounds like fun. I don't know about the hassle with the airline company but Thailand won't give you any hassles.
I live in Japan and one-way discount tickets from here are more expensive anyway. |

I stated that yes, I asked the same airline that gave me dodgy info that I flew with, and checked-in with.
Note, that I called an 800 number and ask a rep anonymously. The rep was based in LA. I flew from another state.
No problems at all while checking in. They asked if I had a visa, I said "no" and that I was getting a VOA (visa on arrival).
Very easy. |

Why waste the time?
It's a waste of time, and needless extra hours on a train.

If it's cheaper for you to do it this way, then sure, it's a good way for you to go. |

I don't know. Some of us think of this kind of stuff as fun. Just being nostalgic I guess.
How do you go into PP overland from Vietnam by the way?
Sorry to get off the visa topic- sounds pretty easy. |
