I have done a lot of research and have pretty much decided I would not like to work in the Abu Dhabi public school system. I have a Elementary education degree with a reading minor. I have 3 hours in Structured English Immersion. My husband doesn't have a teaching degree but Master's in Music with a piano principal. We have 2 school aged boys. I am really interested in American Community School. How should I proceed? Is there a place to suit my whole family? We would like to make enough to get out of debt, and save, etc. |

You'll like ACS. They pander to the teachers so much that they become a hardship on the working parents! |

Dumb question I know, I just wonder if my qualifications are what they are looking for. I guess I won't know till I try. |

You don't really apply to them, but show up at and ISS or Search Associates job fairs that they attend. Once hired, you whine that you work too hard to hold PTA meetings in the PM, so you force the parents to scheme to get off work to attend a PTA meeting from somewhere between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. during the work week.
Actually they're quite a good school...but REALLY ask TOO MUCH of people who both work during the day and have an actual interest in their childrens' educational welfare.
Oh! And if your child isn't a "cookie-cutter" child and requires a little bit of attention/understanding, s/he gets put on a contract and stigmatized through gossip in the teacher's break room...which "officially" doesn't happen.

Wow, that sounds harsh. Did you have a bad experience there? Personally?
Do you think I shouldn't apply? Oh, and what if I can't attend a fair? Do you know anything about the houseing for the teachers. Lots of questions. I hope you don't mind. |

I tried to temper my comments with some kudos towards the teachers. My kid had two very good and two VERY bad teachers there. There are some very good teachers there and some very bad ones.
I'm a teacher.
I didn't appreciate how mine was stigmatized, but was grateful for the "good".
The school is good, but there are some points of contention. PM me for other things when you have the requisite posts (5). |

I hope I didn't offend you. It sounds like international schools aren't any different that any other school in the world. No situation will be perfect and I appreciate you conveying that to me. It is so nice to have someone who knows the school personally. Thank you. May I ask where are you teaching now? |

No offense taken. The school IS a good school, but like anything else has its warts. I didn't (and others don't) like the way the teachers are pampered to parents' detriment.
I currently work for the U. S. Air Force. |

Hey Mr moneymaker...
Isn't a place that pampers its teachers exactly what we teachers are looking for???
Imace...
Check their website about applications. If there is nothing, you could always call them and ask them how to apply. What do you have to lose?
