Google a local solicitor, pop him/her and email and they will tell you exactly, go for a solicitor which deals in conveyancing not criminal! |

You don't have to speak Spanish to go. Nearly everyone speaks English so Spanish is optional. It's an easy way to meet other English speakers too. |
So if everyone speaks English is it not really for practicing your Spanish? I was hoping to use intercambios to actually improve my Spanish once I'm in Madrid. |

You still can improve your Spanish. Not everyone in Madrid speaks English. Intercambios are a great to practice your Spanish and meet people. Give it a go! |

Hi
I've been in Madrid three weeks now and have already experienced the run-around from local officials re. NIE number.
In short, I'm happy about getting a social security number with my UK passport and waiting til I get my first salary payment at the end of September (I'm already working).
But the couple of local banks I've spoken to here in Madrid say I need an NIE number to open an account? Is this true - for all banks? I don't have any other euro-based accounts in any European bank, so I'm facing a catch-22 at the moment.
Any thoughts, please? Thanks.
