Am I missing something? Where are the Czech jobs being advertised? Where are the recruiters? I've been looking all over the internet (including this site) and I see nothing for the Czech Republic. The only thing info I've been able to find suggests I have to GO there to look for a job. That can't be right, can it? That would be a GIANT inconvenience. How can they expect to find teachers if all the teachers have to GO there to find a job? So where are these jobs being advertised? Somebody help me out, here. Thanks. |

Omeo, sorry - there are no recruiters for this region.
Yes, it's true that newbie teachers normally go there, obviously incurring start-up expenses.
One reason is that Prague is a training centre mecca, with five or six active training centres churning out numbers of newbies on a regular basis. Why should any employer take a chance on someone sight-unseen when there are ample numbers of qualified candidates standing in their offices?
The thing is that this entire region has a far greater saturation of teachers versus job openings than Asia, for example. Reputable employers don't have any need to accept a teacher without a face to face interview and a demo lesson.
Sure, it's inconvenient. But it's simply the way it's done here, in 99$ of cases.
Just to be clear - there ARE jobs. But you are highly unlikely to find anything from abroad. |

If you want to work in Prague, you are going to most likely need to train in Prague. Even if you are able to get out here to look for work, you'll need contacts and most hiring schools work with the local TEFL schools. THere's always the chance to you'll find something from abroad, but why would a school even hire anyone from abroad, who doesn't know anyone, the school has never met them before, who might clash with the culture, who doesn't have an apartment...etc
most schools just hire locally and the quality of the training due to the competition of TEFL schools and the demands of the population is usually higher than in most parts of the world

They can easily find teachers; they are not desperate. They do not need to advertise; they are looking for employees who come to them, the same as you would expect in finding a job in your home country. There is plenty of competition and they actually want to see a demo lesson and know that someone is a reliable and qualified teacher. Recruiting from abroad is what the less desirable or desperate regions do; not the Czech Republic. |

Outside of Prague and the big cities, many schools do advertise abroad for native speakers, as the talent pool is not that deep in the sticks.
However, it's simply not quite that time of year yet. Keep looking and you will eventually start seeing some. |

Hi Omeo!
Yes, I'm afraid the vast majority of jobs in the Czech Republic are only offered on the ground and this is due in part because of the high number of TEFL schools in the region, creating an almost continuous stream of newly qualified English teachers.
I think the other reason is that schools tend to work on the basis that they win new language clients throughout the year and often require a teacher immediately to fill a position - rather than having the luxury of being available to plan student and teacher numbers months ahead.
Lastly, it isn't unknown for plans to change and not hiring from abroad avoids any no shows.
Hezky den!/Lovely day!
