Hi. I need some help. At the end of March I'll be starting a new job in Hokkaido and I want to move some of the stuff from my current apartment (in Ibaraki) to the new place. There's not a lot of stuff - a suitcase, a bicycle, a surfboard (yeah, I know I probably wont need it in Hokkaido), my stereo, DVD player etc... no furniture or other large items. I'm wondering about the cheapest and easiest way to do this. Does the post office handle stuff like surfboards and bikes? It doesn't have to be a fast delivery, because I don't start work until May (woohoo, 1 month holiday!).

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

Have you tried Kuroneko Yamato? They're the cheapest from my experience... I'm sure they have branches in Chibaraki. You can also just drop the stuff off at your local conveenie... The only thing the conveenie won't take is the surfboard and bike... but you can ring up the company and they will pick it up for you. You might have to pay a bit extra though.

If you have items you can box up, I'd suggest using the post office. It's by far the cheapest way. I mailed a VCR, Sat Dish, Box of clothes & books, and another fairly heavy box, for less than 8,000 yen (sorry I don't remember the exact weight of each of the four boxes).
