I'll soon need to find housing in santiago and had a couple of questions hopefully someone can help with.
Are there student houses like in England, where uni students get together and share houses? Or is it more like some mediterranean countries where students just stay with their parents?
Also, in shared apartments is it always men with men, and women with women? In england when i've shared houses with women it's always been much cleaner...
Also does anyone have a general idea of the costs? considering i'm just looking for a room in a shared apartment, is a budget of 200 USD/month reasonable? |

I'm sure you could find a spot for less than $200USD a month. I paid about $150 a month to live in a 3-bedroom apartment with two other students.
Students do live in university houses while others continue to live with their parents. You will find a good mixture of both. Residencias are your best best. They are pretty popular, and they're like long-term hostales, usually full of students, travelers and such, and probably will rent for $150-300USD per month. Search "residencias en santiago" in google, or ask around once you're there. |

www.compartodepto.cl is a good resource to find a shared apt, in santiago or other cities. And it isnt unusual for a girl and a guy to share an apartment, especially if one is international. |
