Hi there, (my first post!-- though I've been using this site for over a year)

I'll be going to Taiwan soon (e.g., less than a month) and while looking through the most common job sites, I've seen a lot of posts, exclusively through ESL-Dewey, that advertise public school jobs in Taiwan stipulating that a substitute teaching certificate meets requirements for a PS job.

Quoted from the ad: "Must have a Teacher License/Teacher Registration/Sub-teacher Certificate"

Having taught in a Korean public school for 2 years, I'm really interested in teaching at a Taiwanese public school.

But I'm skeptical of this. I contacted another recruiter asking about this, and they said that a sub-teacher certificate isn't sufficient/that they won't place people in PS with just that.

I've thoroughly searched the cafe for an answer to this question, and haven't found any definitive answer. I have read that occasionally private schools will hire a teacher and that they have the choice to hire someone without a proper teaching license.

I just contacted someone from ESL-Dewey, but I was hoping that someone might have landed a PS job with a sub-teaching certificate.

Regardless, I'll come back and report what I hear from the Dewey recruiter so that others might benefit.

Cheers

A sub license is not sufficient, but what the rules are and what actually happens in Taiwan are two different things.
