A room in a flat. To get your own flat you'll need a minimum of SGD1500, and that's for a government subsidised flat. Condominiums start at around SGD2500 per month.

Thanks wailing_imam. So after looking at a few websites the govt housing sector seems to be the way to go. I would be looking for a 3 bedroom flat/apartment. A $1000S allowance does not seem to cover even the basics. To qualify for the govt housing, one must be a resident? Prices seem to vary from suburb quite a lot.

Yes, of course. The most desired areas are those closest to the city centre, however a lot of these HDB flats are old and depressing. The newer flats in the north of the island (Sengkang, Punngol) are much better. A 3 bedroom flat will set you back at least S$1600. You do not need to be a resident to do the initial rent. However, you will need a letter from your employer proving that your work visa is in process.

To rent for one year you need 1 month rent, 1 month deposit, half a month for agency fee.

Hello Very Happy

Please keep us up to date on your search to find decent housing, I very well may be in a similar situation in the future.

Cheers,

Sohniye
