|
|
Hi all,
I'm a UK qualified Teacher who has been teaching since 1997. I have experience teaching Phy Ed, Maths and ICT.
I'm considering doing a TEFL or CELTA and then trying to get into teaching English in the Schools in S.E.A
I don't want to work in language centers or schools as I want to work within mainstream education and keep the benefits of pay and holidays which I have worked so hard to attain over the years.
I know S. Korea and Hong Kong have programmes in place, do other countries have such schemes and which overall are the best places to seek work all things considered ?
Many thanks in advance to anyone who helps,
MR J |

If you want a job at an international school with benfits, don't waste your time with TEFL. Get a job at an international school teaching math or PE, which you say that you are certified for. Those kind of schools don't hire ESL teachers. They do hire English teachers, but expect you to be certified to teach English in your home country.
Otherwise it sounds like you need to to Korea or get on the HK NET program. |

If you want to stay in international schools you don't really need a TEFL/CELTA or though it doesn't hurt to get them.
Good websites for international school teachers are International schools review. They have a paid section where you can see school reviews. Take them with a pinch of salt but it can certainly help you avoid the really bad schools. They also have a free forum. Then there is TES they also post international job adverts and have an international forum.
Agencies to try for job fairs etc include SEARCH Associates and the International School Services (ISS). TIE online paid site offers job adverts. There are also a number of free agencies like teach any where.
Hope this is of some help. |

Ditto the other posters' comments. You might also try Teachaway for international school opportunities; they mostly deal with (licensed) teaching positions in the Mid East, but often post openings in Asia. |
