Hi everyone,
I'm a 25 year old New Zealander who is doing the 4-week CELTA course here in July. I made an intro post in the Newbie forum which spiral78 answered brilliantly, but I now have a more specific question.
I want to teach in the general vicinity of Turkey/Czech Republic/Albania/Hungary/Romania/Poland etc. I've been told that arriving there in person, around late August, is a good time to start hunting for jobs there. And sending emails/CVs to some schools before I go won't hurt.
My question is: If a school or job ad includes requirements like "1/2/3 years TESL experience required" or "Must be an EU passport holder" -- how much do they really stand by that? When browsing websites I tend to discount anything with those requirements, but is that really necessary? If I turn up and wow them, how likely is it they will overlook my lack of EU passport and brand-new CELTA with no additional experience?
Thanks! |

I'd say in general, schools try to find teachers who fulfill their reqs. If they can't find those who do, they'll probably teach the best qualified teacher out of the CVs they have.
Sharing Our Language might be something to look into. SOL is a UK NGO, pay is low, but it'll get your foot in the door. |

Yeah, fair enough. I kind of expected that answer. Why pick me when there would be plenty of others who do fit the criteria?
Thanks for the link - I came across that site at some stage during random searching, so good to get a recommendation for it. |
