I will be moving to Morocco this summer with my family and would like to teach ESL. I do not have a degree however. Do you think a on line TEFL cert. (was considering TITC) would help me out at all? I'm not looking to teach in a big University or anything like that. Just little here and there in a youth center or something like that. I live in the States and do not have any on site courses offered around me so an online course is the best I could do. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you're talking about doing volunteer teaching somewhere (no compensation), then you don't need even a TEFL certificate, especially if it's a smaller town. It you're talking about working for pay, then according to the law here you need a work permit from the Ministry of Labor and to get that a BA degree---at minimum--- is required from foreigners. And the authorities have gotten much stricter in the past year about this.
Of course, there might be some schools here and there where the management can pull strings or bribe someone to get you a work permit without a BA, but you'd better ask yourself if you'd really want to work for such a place?

Thanks Medina. That's exactly the info I was looking for. As far as volunteering, yes it would be for no compensation,. I just thought that the cert. would help me to do a better job. In other words give me some guidlines as far as the best way to approach teaching ESL and things like that.
Really, my husband has a business there and I was just looking for something to do and I thought that helping out in that way was something that I was able to do.
I know what you mean about the "pulling strings" thing. No Thanks.

About on-line ESL courses: you might look into Jeff Mohamed's, offered on-line from somewhere in Texas. He's been in the field a long time If you combined that course with some volunteer teaching where you are in the States, it could help you a lot in Morocco. Best of luck.
