Concealed Carry Weapon.... That's what we have in Florida anyway. In Texas they have CCF (concealed carry firearm). I suggest ours is a better law since it lets you carry knives. That said, Vermont has the right of it and allows its citizens to carry a gun without a permit. Despite warnings about rampant violence, crime has actually gone down considerably since we enacted concealed carry laws. We have a larger population today but fewer homicides than we had back in the 80s (when obtaining a permit was difficult). It makes criminals think twice before committing a crime if they don't know who has a gun and who doesn't.
The handful of incidents where a permit holder actually used a gun to commit a crime almost all involve police officers.... (where the off duty cop used the gun to shoot someone). To me it seems like a big problem in Mexico that just about any criminal can buy a gun, but your average citizen can not (who wants to follow the law anyway). I know gun control is a big deal for some people and I'm not trying to start a fight, I am just expressing my opinion.
To me this law just works and I think it would work in Mexico. Let people who aren't breaking the law arm themselves... The only time I have been threatened in Florida was outside of a nightclub and guess what...? It is illegal to carry a gun into a club that only serves alcohol, so the perp knew I wouldn't be armed when I left (not legally anyway). I was fortunate in that a cop pulled up, but if he hadn't... well who knows... |
